Art And Social Justice
with Anthony David Gipe [email protected] Former interpreter and civil rights lawyer who currently serves as a judge. A life long artist with a passion for painting and social justice. A very brief foray into the history of social justice art with some examples from the 20th century and the modern era along with two examples from the presenter on the topic. Opportunity for discussion as well. |
Buddhism and Artistic Perception: A Mindful Approach
with Alex La Villa [email protected] Horticulturist, garden designer, artist and meditation instructor interested in the exploration of spirituality and the creative process. After briefly touching on some fundamental tenets of Buddhist practice, we will view a few ‘traditional’ paintings that illustrate these principles. Following on that, we will look at a few paintings and photographs that are a more contemporary expression of the view informed by these principles and by the meditation practices that accompanies it. |
Artistic Journeys On The Elwha River
with Patty Ryan [email protected] Avid hiker who finds artistic inspiration in wild and scenic areas, attempting to communicate the fragility of these environments. We will discuss the dynamic changes occurring in the Elwha River Valley since the removal of the lower and upper dams (2012 and 2014, respectively). We will also look at several key locations in the river valley and discuss aspects of restoration and renewal. Plein air and studio work that I created from my excursions will be sprinkled throughout the lecture. |
